Getting started

What do I need?

An OpenCode server (version 1 or 2) running on a machine you control, and a way for your device to reach it: the same Wi-Fi network, a VPN, or a tailnet. OpenTethr does not include a server or any AI model.

How do I start a server?

On the machine that has your code, set a password and start the server:

export OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORD="choose-a-password"
opencode serve --hostname 0.0.0.0 --port 4096

Then tap Add Server in OpenTethr and enter that machine's address, the port, the user name opencode and your password.

Should I expose the server to the internet?

No. Keep it on your local network or behind a VPN such as Tailscale or WireGuard. If you do put it behind HTTPS, OpenTethr can pin a self-signed certificate after you review its fingerprint.

Common questions

The app can't connect

Check that the server is running and listening on an address your device can reach (not only 127.0.0.1), that the port matches, and that iOS has allowed OpenTethr to use the local network in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network. Test Connection in the server editor reports what went wrong.

A model or provider is missing

Models come from the providers signed in on your server. Add a provider under Settings › Providers, or sign in on the server itself, then pull to refresh.

Some features are greyed out or missing

OpenTethr only offers what your server version supports. A few features, such as archiving chats and language servers, exist on OpenCode 1 but not yet on OpenCode 2.

Where is my data stored?

Your code, chats and provider credentials stay on your server. The app keeps your server list on the device and your server passwords in the Keychain. See the privacy policy.

Is OpenTethr made by the OpenCode project?

No. OpenTethr is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the OpenCode project.
